Heckrodt Book Club
Connecting Nature & Literacy
The Heckrodt Book Club was established in the spring of 2022 with the implementation of a Little Free Library at the children’s Wild Space area. In 2023, we expanded the Heckrodt Book Club by hosting seasonal public programs where participants were able to get a book that relates to the topic of the program. In 2024 the program expanded further by hosting monthly programs with a related book. In 2025 Heckrodt Wetland Reserve will be installing the Heckrodt Tale Trail, Story Walk. This trail will offer more ways for families to connect with literacy in nature. The Tale Trail will lead families down to our Wild Space Play Area. The end goal is to have four books that will be changed seasonally along the trail. By connecting visitors to nature through literacy this helps to foster environmental appreciation and nature exploration in a unique way.
