Habitat Management
Heckrodt Wetland Reserve manages the land and habitats on the Reserve with our local urban wildlife in mind. Target species of interest are the focus of the Reserve’s management effort, but the entire property benefits from the work. Focus species through the end of 2022 include pollinators (bees and wasps of many kinds), birds, bats, and spring ephemeral wildflowers.
Habitat-focused management includes the prairie, the forest, water quality and quantity, and landscaped gardens. HWR Habitat Team works with the Education Team to provide program attendees information in an engaging atmosphere.
