Heckrodt Wetland Reserve provides programs for the greater community!

Heckrodt Wetland Reserve community programs are available on a wide variety of topics that are of interest to audiences of all ages; programs are held onsite and in the community. Our hands-on programs are developed by trained naturalists and designed to foster an ethic of environmental appreciation. Some programs are free of charge, while others will charge a nominal fee to ensure future program opportunities.  Thank you for your continued support!

Heckrodt Edible Plant Program     May 21st from 1:00-3:00 P.M.

Join local forager/photographer David Langner, to learn about common edibles and how to prepare them.  Program fee will include a presentation, guided hike, samples, and a copy of his new booklet, “Saving the Environment One Recipe at a Time:  An Edible Plant Cookbook.” Great for adults and youth over 12 years.  Preregistration Required!

  • $10 per person (each registered person will receive your own booklet)
  • Meet staff and presenter in Nature Center the day of the program

Community First Free Fishing Day! – EVENT IS NOW FULL!  

Join Heckrodt Wetland Reserve staff and volunteers at Jefferson Park in Menasha on Saturday June 4, 2022 for our Community First Fishing Day.  We’ll provide the equipment, assistance, and bait for a fun morning by the water.  All youth fishers ages 2-12 years old will receive a free rod & reel with a tackle box.  A free lunch will also be provided.  Special thanks to Community First Credit Union for being the event sponsor.  We’ll see you on the water!

Registration is REQUIRED!  Please submit a completed registration to Heckrodt Wetland Reserve.  Space is limited.

8:00-9:00 am – (Check-in) those who don’t check-in by 9am your “reservation & prizes” will be forfeited.

8:00-11:00am – Fishing Derby for youth 2-12 yrs.

11:00-Noon  – Lunch and Clean up
