Gathering around fire pit on brick patio at nature center

Winter Solstice

Join Heckrodt Wetland Reserve in celebrating the end of 2021 and the beginning of new light in 2022. This date marks the beginning of astronomical winter in the northern hemisphere and is usually the shortest day of the year. Cultures have celebrated this annual event for centuries and we should too! This torch led hike will take visitors through some unique parts of the Reserve including the boardwalk & The Wild Space. Each participant will receive a s’mores kit (including a sustainably harvested buckthorn roasting stick) to enjoy around the campfire. We’ll have 2 firepits casting warm glows during the event for you to roast your mallows on. During your torch lit experience, take time to reflect on the present, while looking forward to the year ahead and the gradual increase of light.

Event cost is $10 per person
